Camp North Star in Poland Spring, Maine, is hiring Line Cooks for the 2026 summer season.
This is a seasonal position from early June till mid-August. The position isn't residential. It is a 5-day a week job between hours a week.
Camp-age children of the cook/chef who enroll at North Star, attend tuition-free.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced line cooks to work with our Head Chef to provide nutritious and delicious meals for our campers and staff. As a Line Cook, you will follow daily menus ensuring that meals are prepared are ready to be served on time. Line Cooks are expected to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. You will be responsible for cooking and serving one meal per day, fostering a positive team environment, and creating a welcoming dining experience for all. You will collaborate with other cooks/chefs who are responsible for the other two meals each day.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Meal Preparation and Cooking:
- Plan, prepare, and cook one nutritious and balanced meal each day for campers and staff.
- Follow weekly menus that accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Ensure that all meals are served in a timely manner.
2. Food Safety and Hygiene:
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.
- Monitor food storage, handling, and preparation practices to prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Maintain proper inventory of kitchen supplies and ingredients.
3. Dining Experience:
- Create a welcoming atmosphere in the dining area, ensuring that it is clean and organized.
- Engage with campers and staff during meal times, fostering a sense of community and enjoyment.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a camp, restaurant, or institutional setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively.
- Certification in food safety and handling is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires standing for long periods and the ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
