What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Counselor- AmeriCorps (Camp Hollis) position at Camp Hollis?
The Day Camp Program at Camp Hollis runs from Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm. Day Camp Counselors would work an assigned shift during this time period. Day Camp Staff train and work alongside the Resident Camp Staff at Camp Hollis. Our Day Camp Staff is made up of Oswego County AmeriCorps Members.
What is an AmeriCorps Member?
AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides those who serve with the opportunity to receive a living allowance and an education award. It also gives members the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. While AmeriCorps Members serve at Camp Hollis and work with Camp Hollis Staff, they have additional requirements/policies per their AmeriCorps contract.
Salary/Stipend:
AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance that is paid through bi-weekly pay checks. After completing a term of service, they receive an education award that can be used to pay on student loans or finance college, graduate school or vocational training at qualified institutions. Members can receive deferment on qualified student loans for their term of service. When the service commitment is completed, all or some of the interest accrued on a deferred loan may be paid by the National Service Trust.
*All of our Day Camp Counselors are 300-hour members. 300-hour members receive a total living allowance of $2,823 and an education award of $1,565.08
Dates of Employment:
8 Weeks: June 22 - August 14 (Monday-Friday)
Qualifications:
*Must be at least 17 years of age. Organized camp, recreation, or childcare experience preferred.
