PROGRAM OVERVIEW
- Program: Camp Fireweed is an ACA Accredited Summer Day Camp
- Location: Camp operates on the campus of Alaska Pacific University (APU) in Anchorage, Alaska.
- Camp Hours: Camp operates on weekdays, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 7am - 6pm
- Activities: We take full advantage of the natural outdoor setting at APU, spending the majority of the day outdoors. Staff both participate and help facilitate all activities offered to youth, such as: field games, swimming, boating, hiking, creative arts, target sports, rock wall climbing, outdoor living skills/nature exploration and much more!

- Cabin Counselor:
- This position is primarily responsible for the minute-to minute supervision of a group of campers while working with other counselors and specialists to participate in and facilitate a variety of camp activities. As well, this position assists in the day-to-day tasks needed in the running of camp.
- Qualifications:
- Sixteen (16) years of age or older required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Pay: $17.50/hour
- Work Dates: May 4th - August 14, 2026 (beginning with start-up training)
- Work Schedule:
- Full time, 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday
- Part time positions available
- Full time, 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday
- Lead Cabin Counselor:

- This position primarily is responsible for the minute-to-minute supervision of a group of campers while working with other counselors and specialist to participate in and facilitate a variety of camp activities.
- Qualifications:
- Sixteen (16) years of age or older required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Prior experience working at an outdoors camp at Camp Fire Alaska.
- Pay: $18.56/hour
- Work Dates: May 4th - August 14, 2026 (beginning with start-up training)
- Work Schedule: 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday
- Core Counselor:
- The Core Counselor will be responsible for assisting and subbing for the Specialists as well as the day to day supervision of a group of campers.
- Qualifications:
- Required certification in one of these areas from nationally recognized provider:
- Belay
- Basic Archery Instructor
- Lifeguard
- Small watercraft safety
- Wilderness First Aid
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Required certification in one of these areas from nationally recognized provider:
- Pay: $19.37/hour

- Lifeguard Core Counselor:
- A Lifeguard Core Counselor is primarily responsible for providing supervision to staff and campers during swimming activities, as well as facilitate a fun, safe, and well thought out aquatics programming.
- Qualifications:
- Current Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized provider (by start of position)
- Sixteen (16) years of age or older required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Pay: $19.37/hour
- Work Dates: May 4 - August 14, 2026 (beginning with start-up training)
- Work Schedule: 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday
- Creative Arts Core Counselor:
- The Creative Arts Core Counselor will be responsible for developing and teaching Creative Arts (Creative Arts, drama, singing, music, acting, etc.) to campers.
- Qualifications:
- Prior experience in planning and leading Creative Arts activities.
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Pay: $19.37/hour
- Work Dates: April 20 - August 14, 2026 (beginning with start-up training)
- Work Schedule: 8 hours, Monday - Friday, during camp program hours of 7am – 6pm
- Outdoor Living Skills Specialist:
- The OLS Specialist will be responsible for developing and teaching nature, outdoor education, and outdoor living skills activities to campers and providing guidance on utilizing Leave No Trace principles. Additionally, this position will serve as back-up providing for coverage for Cabin Counselor duties as needed.
- Qualifications:
- Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certification preferred.
- Prior experience in planning and leading Outdoor Living Skills activities.
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Pay: Starting at $19.89/hour, with higher rates available based on experience.
- Work Dates: April 20 - August 14, 2026 (beginning with start-up training)
- Work Schedule: 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday
- Field Trip Specialist:
- A Field Trip Specialist is responsible for planning and coordinating off-site trips that expand campers’ knowledge and awareness of the natural environment within the Anchorage community.
- Qualifications:
- Twenty-One (21) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Current Adult/Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
- Prior experience planning and facilitating field trips.
- Valid Driver’s License and eligibility to drive agency vehicles. Prior experience in and ability to drive and maneuver 15 passenger vans.
- Current Wilderness First Aid certification issued by a nationally recognized provider, preferred.
- Pay: Starting at $19.89/hour, with higher rates available based on experience.
- Work Dates: April 20th - August 14, 2026 (beginning with planning and start-up training)

- Counselor in Training Specialist:
- The CIT Specialist is primarily responsible for the day-to-day supervision, training, and coaching of a group of teen campers. They work closely with counselors and fellow specialists to model leadership, build skills, and help teens engage in a wide range of camp activities. Through guidance, encouragement, and active participation, the CIT Specialist helps create a safe, supportive, and fun experience for all participants.
- Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with youth.
- Twenty-one (21) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
- Pay: Starting at $19.89/hour, with higher rates available based on experience.
- Work Dates: April 6 - August 14, 2026 (beginning with start-up training)
- Work Schedule: 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday
- Boating Specialist:
- The Boating Specialist will be providing fun and dynamic instruction, guidance, and supervision to staff and campers during boating (canoeing and kayaking) and natural bodies of water (bird identification, shoreline exploration, etc.) lessons and activities. You'll have the opportunity to teach and evaluate the skills of the campers and staff with regard to boating techniques.
- Qualifications:
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Current lifeguard certification (by start of position)
- Prior experience in boating instruction and lesson planning in an open water setting.
- Current instructor rating/instructor certification in the appropriate craft from a nationally recognized certifying body; American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred.

- Qualifications:
- Current Belay Certification or evidence of successful training.
- Prior experience in leading/facilitating recreational wall climbing, bouldering, and belaying
- Prior experience working with youth preferred.
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
- Pay: Starting at $19.89/hour, with higher rates available based on experience.

- Prior experience in instructing archery preferred.
- Prior experience working with youth preferred.

- Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.

- The Camp Behavior and Health Specialists provide oversight of maintaining and monitoring youth attendance, youth files, completing all relevant paperwork and printing in a timely manner, meeting weekly with the Camp Fire AK Family Service Manager, communicating with parents, camper behavior and healthcare and the overall camp health needs.
- Qualifications:
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
- Experience working with high needs youth.
- Prior experience with youth healthcare delivery and youth social and emotional development needs, preferred.
- Current EMT Certification preferred.
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.

- The Unit Leader is responsible for the overall management and supervision of assigned units, overseeing all aspects of youth safety and staff supervision.

- Demonstrated leadership ability; minimum of one (1) year/season prior experience in staff supervision and youth management.
- Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
- Prior experience with youth, preferably in a day/resident camp setting.
