This is a seasonal, residential summer position at Camp Emerson in Hinsdale, Massachusetts, located in the beautiful Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. Employment dates are June 18–August 15, 2027.

Position Overview

Camp Emerson is a traditional co-ed residential summer camp situated on 140 acres in the beautiful Berkshires. We welcome approximately 150–200 campers per session and strive to provide an unforgettable summer experience filled with friendship, adventure, and personal growth.

We are seeking a talented, creative, and energetic Camp Photographer to capture the daily experiences, special moments, and memorable adventures that make Camp Emerson unique. Photography plays an important role in connecting families to their children's camp experience, allowing parents and loved ones to see the friendships, activities, and accomplishments happening throughout the summer.

The ideal candidate is passionate about photography, comfortable working with children, and able to work independently while collaborating with the camp's leadership and programming teams. This is an active, fast-paced position that requires excellent time management, creativity, and the ability to capture authentic moments throughout the camp day.

Team Structure

The Camp Photographer position will be shared by a team of two photographers who will work collaboratively to capture the full Camp Emerson experience. Photographers will coordinate daily schedules, divide coverage across camp activities and events, and work together to ensure a consistent flow of high-quality photographs. Both photographers will share responsibility for meeting the daily photo-upload requirements, with a combined minimum of 350 photographs uploaded to the camp website each day for families to enjoy.

Candidates must provide their own photography equipment and be prepared to photograph camp activities across a 140-acre property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Photograph daily camp activities, including athletics, arts, waterfront activities, special events, evening programs, performances, and cabin life.
  • Capture candid moments, friendships, achievements, and the everyday experiences that define the Camp Emerson community.
  • Produce high-quality, engaging photographs that reflect the energy, values, and spirit of camp.
  • Photograph special events, theme days, competitions, performances, and other major camp moments.
  • Capture a variety of images, including action shots, candid portraits, group activities, and environmental photography.
  • Coordinate with program staff to identify activities and events that should be photographed throughout the day.
  • Ensure all campers and program areas receive appropriate photographic coverage over the course of the summer.

Photo Uploads & Digital Management

  • Work collaboratively with the second photographer to upload a combined minimum of 350 quality-reviewed photographs per day to Camp Emerson's designated website for families to view.
  • Organize and upload photographs promptly, following the camp's established workflow and daily deadlines.
  • Review images for quality, exposure, composition, and appropriate content before uploading.
  • Select and edit photographs efficiently while maintaining a consistent visual style.
  • Organize and maintain photo files, backups, and folders to prevent lost or misplaced images.
  • Ensure photographs are correctly categorized by date, activity, session, or other required identifiers.
  • Work with camp leadership to ensure families have consistent access to current photographs throughout the summer.
  • Help identify standout images for the camp's website, newsletters, social media, and future marketing materials, subject to camp approval.

Professionalism & Camp Community

  • Maintain a professional, positive, and approachable presence while interacting with campers, staff, and families.
  • Follow all Camp Emerson policies regarding child safeguarding, privacy, photography permissions, and appropriate conduct.
  • Respect campers' personal boundaries and photograph children only in appropriate, authorized settings.
  • Coordinate with camp leadership regarding restricted photography areas, individual camper restrictions, and special requests.
  • Maintain flexibility as schedules, activities, and weather conditions change.
  • Participate in staff meetings and relevant camp events as needed.
  • Represent Camp Emerson positively through photography and interactions with the camp community.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated photography experience, preferably with a portfolio showcasing relevant work.
  • Own professional-quality photography equipment, including a suitable camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards, and other necessary accessories.
  • Ability to photograph fast-moving activities, outdoor environments, sports, and candid moments in varying lighting conditions.
  • Experience with photo editing software and digital image management.
  • Ability to consistently meet the daily minimum of 350 uploaded photographs while maintaining acceptable image quality.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage large volumes of digital files efficiently.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work comfortably around children and teenagers.
  • Ability to remain active and walk throughout a large, 140-acre camp property during the day.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and special events.
  • Commitment to protecting children's privacy and following all camp photography and safeguarding policies.
  • Ability to commit to the full employment period of June 18–August 15, 2027.

Preferred qualifications:
