Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and adaptable RN, LPN, or Advanced EMT to join our medical team as the Assistant Nursing Director. This leadership role supports the Nursing Director in overseeing daily medical operations while providing hands-on care in a dynamic camp environment. This position is ideal for a healthcare professional who values meaningful work, thrives in a non-traditional setting, and wants to make a lasting impact.
Schedule:
- During weeklong camp sessions (Summer and Fall): Primarily 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Sundays during the Summer (June-August) are required for camper checkin: approximately 2pm-9pm
- Winter (December-February): M-F 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Spring (March-May): Variable based in camp needs 8am-4pm or 1pm-9pm
- Occasional weekends required for fundraisers and respite care coverage
- Schedule will be discussed in more detail during the interview process
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Nursing Director with daily medical operations and team support
- Provide nursing care and medical oversight to campers of all ages and abilities
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
- Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies
- Work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with campers, families, and caregivers
- Adapt quickly to changes in routine and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical documentation
- Learn new skills and support a variety of camp programs and activities
Required Qualifications:
- Current RN or LPN license or Advanced EMT certification
- Licensed/certified to practice in the State of Iowa
- Current CPR certification
- CPR Instructor certification or willingness to become a CPR Instructor
- Mandatory Reporter certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions
- Strong emergency response and critical-thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Camp, community health, school nursing, or residential care experience
- Leadership or supervisory experience
