Job Overview
- Under the general direction of the Program Director, will give support and guidance to counselors, activity specialists, program specialists, volunteer program staff.
- Maintain an effective recreational program at the camp.
- Participate and lead in related work as require maintaining the philosophy and goals of camp.
Responsibilities:
YEAR-ROUND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead orientation sessions during program staff training.
- Assign cabin duties and room assignments (Distribute to staff, living quarters and camper cabins).
- Plan, organize, delegate and supervise all evening programs.
- Lead activities as needed.
- Assist campers and program staff at bedtime.
- Be a resource to program staff (including ideas for activity specialists).
- Assume complete responsibility for campers, program staff and camp operations in Program Director’s absence.
- Develop contacts that benefit camp financially or through donations including but not limited to outside entertainment for campers.
- Assist all camp departments as needed.
- Assist with monitoring nights out.
- Plan special events, for example and not limited to: Valentine’s Day, Shamrock Shindig, Summer, and Halloween Dances.
- Communicate regularly and efficiently with Program Director.
- Responsible for the recruitment of campers and the growth in numbers of campers served.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Program Director in the purpose of Camp Courageous and the service it provides.
School Group Day Trips:
- Day Trip Scheduling
- Review teacher/student requests
- Assign schedule to groups
- Assign activity specialists and counselors to groups
- Plan evening programs for overnight groups and lead individual activities when needed
Week-Long Camps:
- Organize camper groups and assign counselors.
- Double check for missing paperwork and contact appropriate people to submit paperwork
- Plan, organize and supervise evening programs.
- Supervise cookout/campouts including checking out tents and visiting campsites
- Meet with activity specialists once a week to plan evening programs
- Camper Arrival (during Summer Season only)
- Prepare lists of campers coming and tables to greet campers
- Meet staff for Sunday meeting to communicate any changes/information
- Communicate with nurses to see when they are ready to start checking in
- Coordinate activity specialists to help with arrival
- Contact “no-shows”
- Make appropriate changes with groups and communicate changes and no-shows with all departments (Program Director, nursing, kitchen)
- SUMMER: Week Planner
- Evening Programs on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
- Cookouts on Monday night (evening program when raining)
- Campouts for Wednesday night (evening program when raining)
- WINTER/FALL: Week Planner:
- Evening programs on Tuesday/Thursday
- Cookouts on Monday (weather permitting- evening program when raining, cold or dark)
- Campouts on Wednesday (weather permitting-evening program when raining, cold or dark)
OPTIONAL: THERAPEUTIC RECREATION INTERN SUPERVISOR:
- Obtain and/or maintain Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential.
- Meet National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) requirements for upkeep and renewal of CTRS credential, including CEUs, annual maintenance fees and five- year cycle recertification.
- Develop, maintain and update Internship Manual.
- Recruit, hire and supervise qualified therapeutic recreation interns.
- Assist intern in orientation to the camp, its policies, procedures and activities.
- Meet daily with intern to discuss progress, assignments, concerns, etc.
- Assist intern with school assignment requirements such as bi-weekly reports, evaluations and other assignments.
- Assist intern with writing program and camper goals and objectives, evaluations, progress notes and other documentation as required by NCTRC.
- Collect information during registration period.
- Enter week-long information into the data base.
- Email appropriate applications including letter or email explaining payment.
- Update application information from web submissions.
- Email confirmations and clothing lists to campers after submission of applications.
- Responsible for the health, safety, conduct and morale of campers and program staff.
- Cooperate effectively with other staff and departments.
- Supervise program staff to provide quality activities in all aspects of the camp.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned for the purpose of Camp Courageous and the services it provides.
- Assume Program Director’s duties in their absence.
- Assign, schedule and supervise program staff to maintain effectiveness and morale.
- Financial responsibility for private pay, waiver billing and relationships with case managers.
