Description

Currently we have positions open for:

  • Male Elementary Summer Camp Assistant Director who will work specifically with elementary aged campers, and directly oversee the male summer staff and campers
  • Female Middle School Summer Camp Assistant Director who will work specifically with middle school aged campers, and directly oversee female summer staff and campers

Summary:

The Summer Camp Assistant Director will serve in a hands-on role to help create and execute dynamic programming that reaches campers while leading and developing college aged staff to grow into the next generation of Christian leaders. They will also spend time recruiting excellent summer staff and counselors. This role is ideal for a deeply relational, creative individual who desires to be active in the programming and camper experience. While there will be specific areas of management and oversight, this role is highly collaborative with the other members of the program team as they shape a cohesive summer camp program. Please note - this role encompasses three different positions, one for each age level at our camp. Assistant Directors will work with a specific age group: Elementary, Middle School or High School. Each position will also be directly supervising a specific gender of summer staff and campers, in conjunction with the Summer Camp Director.

Essential Job Functions:

The following essential functions will be carried out with oversight from the Summer Camp Director. 

  1. Program Development: 
    1. Participate in event planning (large group games, skits, Bible studies etc) in conjunction with the Program Team
    2. Assist with other upkeep of program supplies and systems as assigned
    3. Ensure adherence to all safety standards, especially as it pertains to child protection
    4. Be a productive member of the Program Team in implementing all summer programs
    5. Help create a positive work environment for summer staff
    6. Be present and participate in appropriate team meetings, retreats, and events
    7. Supervise & manage key summer leadership positions, including one-on-ones and end-of-summer evaluations
    8. Assist with oversight of summer staff in conjunction with the Summer Camp Director
  2. Recruiting:
    1. Work with staff to schedule on-campus recruiting
    2. Seek out, connect with, and attend camp fairs, career fairs, and build relationships with campus ministries
    3. Follow up with leads that come in through all recruiting efforts
    4. Connect with summer staff to recruit for the following years
    5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of recruitment activities, candidate information, and other relevant data using appropriate systems or tools
    6. Interview and hire designated summer staff to reach intended summer staff hiring goals
  3. Other duties as assigned:
    1. Be a team player by providing support to other aspects of Cho-Yeh’s ministry
    2. Continue to learn and grow through workshops, conferences and certifications

  • Ability to work/reside in Camp Cho-Yeh’s vicinity year-round 
  • Able to travel for recruiting, training, and staff retreats, and work long hours in the summer

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

Carries out limited supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Strong experience in camp programming, high organizational skills, and an ability to manage several concurrent projects.  Must be able to effectively lead college-age staff while actively a part of the year-round Cho-Yeh team.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Strong relational and interpersonal skills are essential to this role. Ability to manage personal emotions in conversations with campers, camper parents, and staff, while guiding the discussion to a desirable outcome.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TIME MANAGEMENT ABILITY

Ability to effectively manage their own time and have great attention to detail.  Ability to show initiative and function as a self-starter.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use fingers and hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. WORK ENVIRONMENT  

Shared office space where collaboration and interaction with colleagues are essential. Some tasks may necessitate working outdoors. Remote work options are limited, as this position has an emphasis on the importance of on-site presence for certain key responsibilities. Travel for recruiting purposes is to be expected.
