MEDICAL ASSISTANT (MA)

Chief Operations and Nursing Officer

Position Summary:
The MA has duties and responsibilities related to patient care. The MA must display responsible behaviors, communicate effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team. The MA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when performing clinical tasks during patient care. The MA reports to the Nurse Manager who is responsible for administrative supervision, staff development, and orientation of the MA to the area’s policies and procedures. The MA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Committed to the Mission of Camillus Health Concern
- Assist with patient examinations
- Record vital signs, height and weight measurements
- Sanitize clinical work spaces
- Maintain medical laboratory log book
- Retrieve and file diagnostic tests (i.e., x-rays lab work) information on a daily basis
- Autoclave medical equipment as needed
- Make outside appointments and referrals for clients
- Stock, order and organize necessary medical supplies and forms for all clinical areas
- Monitor incoming phone calls for medical staff
- Administer necessary medications under the direction of a licensed physician
- Phlebotomy
- Patient education
- Perform simple diagnostic (i.e., EKG, Hemocue, urine dip, etc.)
- Assist as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic
- Perform any other department or agency related duties or special projects as directed by Supervisor
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited training school
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Previous experience in medical setting
- Phlebotomy experience
- Computer Proficient
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), Creole a plus
