They must be able to organize and coordinate activities within the purchasing department. This role will report directly to Purchasing Director and works collaboratively with purchasing peers within the division and at the corporate office in Houston. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detailed-orientated, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining strong vendor relationships and supporting purchasing operations from bid solicitations through vendor onboarding and system support.

- Understands and has relationships with members of the trade base within the market and can outline possible future trades based on market knowledge of their performance.
- Identifies, qualifies, and contacts potential vendors to receive bids or quotations.
- Participates in bid evaluation, bid negotiation, and vendor selection; may suggest alternate vendors to secure discounts for bulk purchases.
- Responsible to assist vendors with the set-up and use of JD Edwards (JDE) purchasing platform.
- Executes purchases and issues purchase orders as directed by buyers or other personnel.
- Maintains records of purchases or payments.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Friendly and welcoming demeanor with the ability to maintain professionalism and a strong customer-focused demeanor with demanding clientele.
- Handles complex issues and problems and escalates most complex issues to management.
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of purchasing processes and procedures.
- Effective negotiating skills required.
- Detailed oriented and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and purchasing systems preferred.
- Performs work under minimal supervision.
- Provides coaching, and/or mentoring to purchasing coordinators.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Associates Degree or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in homebuilding preferred.
- 4-6 years of experience in purchasing or procurement within homebuilding required.
- 3-5 years of experience within the JD Edwards (JDE) purchasing platform, ideally utilizing this platform in their current or last employer is required.
- Professional office environment and field visits as needed.
