POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the campus aide provides supervision and direction to students in areas of the school campus and maintains classroom continuity to ensure that students continue to learn in their teacher’s absence in order to promote a safe environment for students and staff during classroom and non-classroom activities and to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the opportunity gap among subgroups within the schools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

 

 

I. INSTRUCTION TIME

  • Implement daily substitute lesson plans.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with those goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate them to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and in the classroom, enforce rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom.
  • Remain calm, efficient, and positive.
  • Supervise students in the classroom and in other settings (e.g., lunch, recess).
  • Ensure the health and safety of students in their care.
  • Work with small groups to support their learning, as needed.
  • Respond to any questions from students and provide support and guidance
  • Address any immediate problems or emergencies in accordance with the school's policies and procedures.
  • Implement all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct; in the classroom, implement rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order.

II. NON-INSTRUCTION TIME

  • Supervises students during lunchtime and maintains a positive, safe atmosphere.
  • Circulates throughout the cafeteria during mealtime. Helps students by opening packages and milk cartons.
  • Cleans up spills and provides additional assistance as needed.
  • Assists students through the cafeteria line in an orderly fashion.
  • Ensures students are orderly and acting appropriately.
  • Assists staff in lunchroom clean-up.
  • Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed.
  • Adheres to the routines outlined in the school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) plan as it pertains to the cafeteria.
  • Directs students' movement to and from the cafeteria and classrooms in a safe, organized manner.
  • Reports disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate
    safety concerns.
  • Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the supervisor immediately.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
  • Assists with students’ arrival and dismissal procedures. 
  • Monitors hallways and/or bathrooms.

III. SAFETY & SECURITY

  • Monitor video surveillance systems daily; report all malfunctions and make appropriate recommendations for enhancements, needs, etc.
  • Perform daily building security checks and report any breaches to Building Administration, the Head Custodian, and the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist in lockdown drills and any other security procedures.
  • Assist with interior/ exterior building supervision (common areas, hallways, parking lots, athletic fields).
  • Assist Administrators as needed with locker searches, student restraints, student supervision, and investigations.
  • Monitor in-house suspension, after-school suspension, and other student supervision assignments as needed.
  • Attend dances, proms, and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Investigate reports of theft, vandalism, security breaches, etc. as assigned by the Administration.

IV. OTHER

  • Attend professional development and/or training as required by the District and/or supervisor.

 Other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building.
  • Must often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time.
  • It is occasionally required to reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e., books, school supplies, etc.).
  • Must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and use hand strength to grasp tools.
  • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
  • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Must communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff in person, via email, and on the telephone.
  • Must be able to see and hear continuously to ensure student safety and provide instruction.
  • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
  • May be required to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces.
  • Must interact with students, parents, and staff and meet multiple demands.
  • While most of the workday is spent inside, must spend time outdoors for recess and special activities.
  • May be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens.
  • May receive injuries from aggressive students.
  • May require physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling behavior.

  • Building Principal (and/or Designee).
  • The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Framingham School Committee Policy Contract.

  • This position is classified as Non-Exempt (Hourly).

  • Covered under the Framingham Teachers Association Union. The District reserves the right to transfer personnel as needed.
