JOB TITLE: Surgery Scheduler

SHIFT: 1.0 FTE, Full-time, Bi-Weekly, Days

BENEFITS: This is a Full-time, benefit eligible position.

Summary/ObjectivePosition requires utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per provider’s orders. The Surgical Scheduler must schedule hospital-based procedures consistent with the patient’s diagnosis and procedure request. The Scheduler must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Individuals must be organized and able to manage demanding workload with accuracy.

Education Required

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Medical terminology, preferred.

Experience

• Two years' experience in healthcare scheduling, preferred.
• Familiarity with EPIC system is a plus.

Essential Functions

• Schedule's hospital based medical procedures, for patient's appropriate provider time/location slot, utilizing EPIC.

• Exemplifies good customer service.

• Regular reliable attendance.

• Effectively communicates and gets along well with others.

• Demonstrates proficient use of email.

• Accomplishes goals set for self and by Office Manager.

• Completes patient care assignments as directed by provider and clinical protocol. Reports significant findings to the provider.

• Prepares clinical areas for patient care at the beginning of the shift. Secures clinic areas nightly.
• Proficient in EPIC includes retrieving patient records, entering patient data (e-form) and locking records.
• Greets patients on arrival.
• Registers and enters patient data into the Health Information system. Scans insurance card information.
• Admits patients, taking brief history and vitals.
• Performs procedure set-up and assists provider as indicated.
• Discharges patient with prescriptions/instructions and documents in patient’s chart.
• Maintains adequate medical supply and medication inventory.
• Schedules surgeries or referrals as ordered, attain prior authorizations for surgeries when needed, provides patient education and instruction information.
• Familiar with policies in Policystat, include nursing, registration and disaster policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Office Manager.

Ideal candidate will have excellent clerical skills, ability to effectively communicate both written and spoken, and will also possess outstanding customer service skills.
