Summary/Objective
The Facilities Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for providing preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance to ensure Cameron Hospital and its facilities are maintained safely and effectively. This position repairs, adjusts, maintains, modifies, operates, and installs various systems, utilities, equipment and related items.
Essential Functions
- Adds value as a key member of the facilities team; understands regulatory compliance, maintenance strategies, and excellent customer service.
- Demonstrates ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of repair supplies and materials.
- Maintain effective and professional communication with hospital staff and vendors
- Participates in ongoing training and education as required and assigned.
- Follows and enforces DNV and CMS regulations.
- Participates in the on-call maintenance schedule and follows appropriate guidelines when on duty.
- Performs minor repairs to air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, ventilating, fire protection systems, emergency power systems, hardware, and fixtures. Assists in skilled trade activities under direction of skilled trades personnel. Performs facility maintenance to include plumbing, mechanical, electrical, carpentry and painting.
- Conducts assigned Physical Environment inspections and routine regulatory physical checks (ex: exit/emergency light inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, generator runs, pressure checks, gauge readings, eye wash inspection checks)
- Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assess the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety standards.
- Performs monthly/weekly preventive maintenance on equipment in alignment with the preventative maintenance program. Closes out PMs in a timely manner and submits required documentation to be filed appropriately.
- Completes work orders as assigned with the ability to escalate appropriately based on safety.
Qualifications
Experience
- Two years of experience in maintenance and repairs. Training/education experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualification
Skills/Competencies
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to interact with patients and staff in a respectful and understanding manner and maintain proper levels of patient confidentiality.
- Strong ability to work both independently and to work closely and professionally with others.
- Demonstrates general computer skills
- Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment in the performance of repairs and PM's
- Ability to interpret instructions and read simple blueprints.
- Ability to solve practical problems.
- Experience in the areas of facility upkeep and general building maintenance associated with residential or commercial facility maintenance.
- Mechanical knowledge of equipment operations and techniques of repair.
- Demonstrated experience working with refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, and service gauges.
- Experience working with HVAC equipment desired
Education/ Certification
- High school diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent required – Required
- Refrigerant Handling Certification – Required
- HVAC Certification - Preferred
Licenses Requirements
- Valid driver’s license is required.
