JOB TITLE: Patient Care Tech
SHIFT/FTE Status: PRN, scheduled hours 1/six weeks (one 12-hour shift once every six weeks), biweekly, all shifts
Summary/Objective:
The Patient Care Technician may assist professional nursing staff with activities of daily living and vital signs in caring for patients including assisting and serving patients in a manner conducive to patient safety and comfort.
Essential Functions
• Interpersonal Skills: Requires interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact with patients and caregivers on a regular basis.
• Assisting patients with the activities of daily life
• Using unit equipment for care, i.e. scales, beds, patient lifts, Vital Sign Monitors.
• Collecting blood specimens if specifically trained in department assigned
• Inputting information into patient electronic medical records
• Informing RN supervisor of abnormal patient assessments.
• Assisting with daily activities: patient bathing, dressing, eating, walking, and toileting
• Participating in monitoring that patient safety processes are in place
• Age specific clinical competency: Exhibits skills necessary to care for child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients including but not limited to CPR techniques and activities of daily living (ADL). Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development for child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Qualifications
• BLS within 3 months of hire
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong patient relations skills required
Skills/Competencies
• To be developed during orientation period
Education
• High School Diploma/ GED required
• Job related experience: No previous experience required in specialty areas
