Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Segregation Manager to join our client's dynamic tax advisory team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cost segregation studies, providing strategic tax planning and compliance services to our clients with real estate holdings. This role involves managing projects, leading a team, and ensuring the accuracy and defensibility of cost segregation analyses against IRS audits.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Cost Segregation Projects: Oversee the entire lifecycle of cost segregation studies, from initial client consultation through to the delivery of final reports. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Client Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, understanding their specific tax and business needs, and tailoring cost segregation strategies accordingly.
Team Leadership: Direct, mentor, and develop a team of analysts and engineers. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Technical Expertise: Conduct site visits, analyze property and construction data, and classify assets into appropriate tax life categories for accelerated depreciation. Stay current with IRS rules, regulations, and case law related to cost segregation.
Quality Assurance: Review and validate the work of team members to ensure compliance with IRS guidelines and internal standards. Prepare for and defend studies during IRS audits.
Business Development: Participate in marketing efforts, including proposal development, presentations, and networking to attract new clients and expand service lines.
Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed, defensible reports that clearly outline the methodology, findings, and tax benefits of the cost segregation study. Maintain meticulous records for audit readiness.
Professional Development: Keep abreast of industry trends, changes in tax legislation, and advancements in cost segregation methodologies. Share knowledge through internal training or at industry conferences.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree or professional certification (CPA, PE, etc.) is strongly preferred.
Experience:
Experience in cost segregation or related tax services.
Proven track record of managing and delivering complex cost segregation projects.
Skills:
Deep understanding of IRS regulations concerning depreciation and cost segregation.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret construction documents and financial data.
Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills.
Proficient in Excel, cost segregation software, and other relevant tools.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
