What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Certified Recovery Peer Advocate position at Camelot of Staten Island, Inc.?

POSITION SUMMARY:

CRPA serves as role models for participants and educate them about self-help techniques and self-help group process; teach them effective coping strategies, sometimes based on personal experience; assist them in clarifying their goals for rehabilitation and recovery; and help them to develop support systems. CRPAs perform a range of tasks (including making referrals), which are designed to assist participants in regaining personal control over their lives and over their own recovery processes. CRPAs model competence and the possibility of recovery and assist participants with gaining the perspective and skills that facilitate recovery.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engaging with an individual that is considering entering treatment;
  • Engaging a client to attend treatment or other healthcare services;
  • Engaging an individual in continuing care services; current and post-discharge.
  • Raising awareness of and making referrals to existing social and other support services.
  • Helping peers develop Recovery Plans.
  • Assist in learning and practicing new skills.
  • Helping peers self-monitor their progress.
  • Modeling effective coping skills.
  • Attending court and other system meetings as a support.
  • Facilitating non-clinical peer support groups.
  • Supporting another peer in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA)
  • High School diploma or Equivalency
  • Ability to work with participants, families, and staff in a caring and respectful manner, and with due understanding of and consideration for cultural differences.
  • Ability to be empathetic and supportive to client instructing, demonstrating, modeling, and encouraging appropriate behavior and skills.
  • Must be computer literate.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
