Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class A or B CDL with S (School Bus) and P (Passenger) endorsements.
- Previous experience in heavy-duty truck or bus maintenance and repair.
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications
- Missouri State Inspection License: preferred
REPORTS TO: Head Mechanic and Director of Transportation
Essential Functions And Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical failures using diagnostic equipment; repair engines, suspensions, braking systems, steering, and electrical components all district vehicles and equipment.
- Perform or assist with mechanical repairs on buses to include major overhauls if directed.
- Conduct regular inspections (oil changes, tire checks, lubrication, fluid checks) to keep vehicles compliant with state and federal regulations.
- Ensure all buses meet strict Department of Transportation (DOT) and state regulations for school vehicles.
- Maintain accurate, timely service records, repair orders, and inspection logs for every vehicle.
- Make emergency service calls for stranded buses or other district equipment.
- Maintain the shop area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
- Perform complete safety inspections as required.
- Estimate time, material, and equipment needed for assigned jobs.
- Operate school vehicles.
- Comply with occupational hazard and standard safety practices necessary in the areas of maintenance and mechanical repair work.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Read, interpret, understand, and apply technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, specifications, and parts catalog.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.

Terms Of Employment
- Scheduled Work Days: 254 days; 8.0 hrs / day. Does not include a 30 minute lunch.
- Pay Range: Starts at $20.05/hr and is commensurate with experience.
