Position Summary
The High School Science Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction in literature, composition, grammar, and communication skills to students in grades 9–12. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about teaching, highly organized, and committed to student success in a structured, disciplined environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with South Carolina state curriculum standards
- Teach high school science courses, which could include Physical Science, Environmental Science, Biology, and Horticulture
- Monitor evening study hall once a week for 90 minutes
- Coach or serve as a faculty advisor for at least two extracurricular activities, such as athletics or clubs
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, discipline, and a strong work ethic
- Assess student progress through regular feedback, assignments, and formal evaluations
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and educational technologiesCollaborate with faculty and leadership to uphold the Academy’s mission and values
- Participate actively in the broader life of the Academy, including student mentorship, extracurricular activities, and school events
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or a related field
- Strong knowledge of science content and scientific inquiry
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a structured, focused learning environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) for instructional and administrative tasksA passion for working with high school-aged boys in a structured, values-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience in a high school or private school setting
- Understanding of military school structure and cadet lifeFamiliarity with college preparatory curriculum and student development strategies
