Minimum Pay: $17.07/hourly

Job Summary

This position performs technical duties in support of Fire and EMS functions and provides administrative and customer service support for the department.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Processes department invoices for payment.
  • Prepares bank deposits.
  • Answers telephone and directs callers; provides information and assistance.
  • Receives and processes incoming mail.
  • Verifies and processes travel invoices for approved departmental travel.
  • Maintains files and prepares correspondence.
  • Answers billing questions for transported patients and processes payments; coordinates payment billing information with third-party billing representative; reviews collections list.
  • Prepares invoices for patient records.
  • Prepares and distributes patient reports in compliance with HIPAA and other legal requirements.
  • Maintains asset list and prepares work orders.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other work as required or when directed by administration.
  • In the event of an emergency, all Camden County employees are considered essential and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Knowledge Required By The Position

  • Knowledge of EMS billing principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping practices.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the operation of modern office equipment.
  • Skill in the provision of customer services.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Fire Administrative Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include department billing procedures, HIPAA regulations, and department and county policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgement, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related technical duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide support for department billing functions. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of billing processes.

CONTACTS

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county employees, billing vendors, patients, delivery persons, attorneys, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
