Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse to join our dynamic mental health care team. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations, vital signs, and physical evaluations to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications accurately, including injections and IV infusions, while monitoring for adverse reactions and ensuring medication compliance.
- Implement therapeutic interventions such as counseling support, psychoeducation, and behavioral management techniques tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Manage acute pain and psychiatric crises with prompt intervention, de-escalation techniques, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
- Assist with specialized treatments such as botulinum toxin procedures when applicable within psychiatric or related specialties.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical documentation in electronic health record (EHR) systems like Cerner or Epic, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Coordinate discharge planning and case management to facilitate smooth transitions between inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, or community settings.
- Engage in patient education regarding medication management, coping strategies, and health coaching to promote recovery and independence.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings focused on trauma medicine, dementia care, geriatrics, or behavioral health initiatives aligned with NCQA standards.
- Support infection control practices and aseptic techniques during procedures such as suturing or specimen collection.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in emergency medicine environments or Level I Trauma Centers to deliver comprehensive acute care.
- Work with diverse populations including children, seniors in assisted living or nursing home settings, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring hospice & palliative medicine services.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license (RN) with current registration in the applicable state or region.
- Proven experience in psychiatric nursing or behavioral health settings; experience in hospital medicine or critical care is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for procedures like suturing or gastric lavage.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth for accurate documentation and patient record management.
- Competence in administering injections, IV insertions, catheterization (including Foley catheters), tube feeding management, ventilator support, and basic life support (BLS).
- Experience working with people with disabilities—including developmental disabilities—and providing memory care or dementia-specific interventions is preferred.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations effectively; experience with laboratory processing and specimen collection is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills for triage assessments and patient education; ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams across emergency rooms, ICU units (including PICU), outpatient clinics, or home & community care environments.
- Knowledge of infectious disease control protocols and infection prevention measures necessary for safe practice in diverse clinical settings.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex cases involving acute pain management, trauma medicine, occupational health issues—including Workers' Compensation law—and hospice & palliative care needs.
