Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, mental status examinations, and behavioral observations to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications with precision, including injections and IV infusions, following strict protocols and HIPAA regulations to ensure patient safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment strategies aligned with evidence-based practices and NCQA standards.
- Manage acute pain and psychiatric crises through de-escalation techniques and emergency interventions while maintaining a calm, supportive environment.
- Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with medical documentation standards.
- Educate patients and their families on medication management, coping strategies, and community resources to promote ongoing recovery.
- Participate in discharge planning, case management, and follow-up care coordination to support long-term stability and community reintegration.
Experience
- Proven experience in behavioral health nursing within hospital medicine, inpatient psychiatric units, or outpatient mental health clinics.
- Familiarity with medical-surgical nursing practices combined with specialized knowledge of mental health protocols.
- Hands-on experience administering injections, IV therapy, and managing complex medication regimens for diverse populations.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 coding systems for accurate documentation and billing purposes related to behavioral health services.
- Skilled in patient assessment techniques involving mental status exams, trauma-informed care approaches, and physiological evaluations.
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities or dementia care is highly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or emergency rooms while maintaining high standards of patient safety.
