Director of Engineering

Location: Greensboro, NC

Position Type: Engineering

Reports to: Sr. VP of New Products and Engineering


The Director of Engineering will lead the engineering team in the development and production implementation of engineered product and process solutions. This role is pivotal in driving product development & value engineering, ensuring projects adhere to production & launch timelines, and aligning product integrity with Camco’s mission to deliver high-quality, reliable solutions for the RV, marine, automotive, and camping industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and design guidelines
  • Implement and refine processes for product development, testing, and release
  • Partner with product, manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams to translate commercial needs into technical requirements
  • Coordinate with product, manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams to ensure timely and successful product launches
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Operations to ensure designs are optimized for production
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives
  • Establish quality standards and oversee testing protocols to ensure product reliability
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers on tooling, production processes, and quality control
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality and performance
  • Monitor progress against milestones and proactively address risks or roadblocks
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on product execution metrics
  • Lead Compliance affairs to ensure products meet regulatory requirements
  • Facilitate regular communication between stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations
  • Lead and mentor a team of product engineers
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent through coaching and career development planning
  • Foster a collaborative, execution-focused culture
  • Support teams in prioritizing tasks and allocating resources effectively
  • Support customer feedback loops and ensure insights are integrated into product execution
  • Assist in translating customer needs into product requirements in collaboration with strategy owners
  • Establish, implement, & maintain technical documentation processes


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred
  • 8 years of experience in engineering project management, preferably in manufacturing or consumer goods
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects
  • Proven track record of launching successful products in a competitive market

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in RV, marine, or automotive product categories
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain dynamics
  • Experience with overseas manufacturing and supplier management in Asia
