The Health Safety and Environmental Specialist (HS&E) is responsible for maintaining the health safety and environmental of the plant workforce and environment by monitoring and evaluating health and safety conditions; assuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures and governmental standards; and maintenance of the HS&E Programs for the site. The primary objective is to ensure a safe and incident-free work environment including methodologies, initiatives and strategies that promote safe operations, safety awareness, training and continuous improvement to eliminate or control unsafe behaviors, environments and hazards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Deliver Safety Programs:
- Train employees in worksite safety practices.
- Promote and cultivate a safety-focused culture.
- Embed safety as a core value for all employees.
Orientation and Collaboration:
- Lead Safety Orientation for new employees.
- Collaborate with employees to identify safety solutions based on inspections and investigations.
- Eliminate incidents and prevent their recurrence.
Supervisor Development:
- Coach and develop supervisors to be effective HS&E leaders.
Compliance and Improvement:
- Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
- Continuously analyze HS&E programs, conditions, and behaviors.
- Recommend changes to enhance site safety performance.
Field Work and Investigations:
- Sample wastewater and stormwater pits during rain events.
- Thoroughly investigate incidents in coordination with site leadership.
Cultural Engagement:
- Foster a safety-conscious culture where everyone is accountable.
- Encourage safe work practices among co-workers.
Collaboration and Leadership:
- Collaborate with other functions (Engineering, HR, Quality, Operations) to achieve goals.
- Demonstrate the Company's Operating Principles.
Training and Emergency Response:
- Conduct forklift training and evaluations.
- Be available for varying shifts, including weekends.
- Respond to medical emergencies, fires, and spills.
Offsite Training:
- Travel for safety or environmental training (less than 10%).
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- Alternatively, a combination of relevant education and experience.
Work Experience:
- Demonstrated 2-3 years of experience a manufacturing HS&E role.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in using computer systems and data analysis for reporting and HS&E activities.
- Strong technical expertise in manufacturing safety and safety processes.
Availability and Licensing:
- Flexibility to support all shift and/or weekend activities.
- Valid Driver's License.
Additional Certifications (Preferred):
- Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid.
- Hazardous Waste/RCRA training.
Language Skills (Strongly Preferred):
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
