Job Summary

Assist the Director EKG/NIVL, Medical Director, and Director of Vascular Center of Excellence (VCOE) with clinical, administrative, and fiscal management of the assigned Non-Invasive Vascular Lab. Provide personnel development. Perform peripheral vascular non-invasive testing inclusive of cerebral, venous, and arterial systems to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.


Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibilities specified by the Director EKG/NIVL, Medical Director and, in general, is responsible for the day to day operation of the laboratory, maintenance and operation of equipment.

  • Responsible for overseeing assignments related to Clinical/accreditation.

  • Provide consistent input to the Director EKG/NIVL/Medical Director on the quality of care, which is being provided in the Department.

  • Monitor and review the quality of care and examinations which are being provided in the Department in collaboration with physicians and staff.

  • Act as a resource for clinical and technical skills.

  • Assist with development of unit policies/procedures.

  • Practice as a professional role model for the department/hospital.

  • Initiate and participate in quality improvement activities, prepare reports and assist the Director EKG/NIVLin the preparation of the performance improvement manual (PI).

  • Facilitate monthly Tech meetings to include operational, patient care and educational issues and prepare meeting notes.

  • Assist the Director EKG/NIVL with performance planning process.

  • Assist the Director EKG/NIVL in assuring the accrediting body requirements for the department are met.

  • Verify the competency of specific clinical skills on the unit.

  • Identify educational needs of the department staff and provide continuing education, such as in-service education on new policies, clinical skills procedures, and equipment, or coordinate with appropriate others.

  • Assume responsibility for own personal and professional growth; Facilitate professional growth in staff members.

  • Provide input on budget needs for departmental supplies/equipment.

  • Participate in various hospital/unit committees.

  • Coordinate various special projects, such as policy and procedure initiation and revision and/or standing order initiation and revision.

  • Prepare reports, as directed, concerning department's activities.

  • Maintain on-going communication with staff and physicians in assuring quality patient care and customer satisfaction.

  • Assist the Director EKG/NIVL in communication with patients, families and visitors.

  • Coordinate patient schedule and staff schedule to balance and meet the demands of patient volume with available staff resources; communicate with patients, ordering physicians and staff accordingly.

  • Perform all types of peripheral vascular testing services provided by the NIVL; explain procedures and obtain history.

  • Assess the condition of inpatients and coordinate need for portable study and/or patient transport.

  • Assure unit availability of all resource manuals and act as a resource in the interpretation of all current policies, procedures, and forms.

  • Exhibit professional behavior at all times.

  • Exhibit consistency in leadership. Maintain an environment in which questions are welcome and needs for guidance are met.

  • Facilitate the orientation of all new clinical staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement

Education

  • Formalized Training (Required) Education: Formalized Training- Diagnostic Ultrasound or Echo Experience: 3 Years related experience that includes experience as a vascular tech Substitutions: 4 years on the job training as a vascular technologist may substitute for two years formalized training in diagnostic ultrasound or echo
