What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Tech OR Resource -- Operating Room -- Memorial Hospital position at CAMC Health System?
Provision of assistance to the operating room staff and to the needs of the physician in providing patient care under the supervision of a Clinical Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Practice aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Apply appropriate cleaning techniques in the operating room.
- Participate during the course of the procedure by handing instruments and supplies to the surgeon.
- Assist with applying the dressing to the incision.
- Clean and restock the room assigned.
- Assist with inservice and training of new personnel.
- Take call as assigned.
- Maintain preference cards and equipment.
- Educate new staff members in the use of equipment and instrumentation.
- Field surgeon calls when requesting supplies or scheduling requests.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education
• Formalized Training (Required) Education: High School Diploma/GED, Certificate - Surgtech AND/OR LPN Degree Experience: 2 years of experience Substitutions: AST Training Program may substitute for Armed Forces/Military Certification (with documentation).
