Job Summary

The position will be responsible for the development, coordination, implementation of trauma prevention/education/outreach program to prevent traumatic injuries as well as improving trauma care via public and professional education.


Responsibilities

1. Develops and deliver the injury prevention program to patients and the community based on community needs assessment and trauma registry data.
2. Monitors criteria to assist in the evaluation for the effectiveness of injury prevention programs.
3. Maintains accurate records of all injury prevention activities and provides reports regarding injury prevention activities.
4. Participates in multidisciplinary injury prevention research aimed at reducing identified injuries.
5. Gathers and disseminates information on legislation effecting injury prevention and trauma care.
6. Facilitates and participates in advisory groups, coalitions, committees, and organization events on various injury prevention topics that include community, agency and hospital partners.
7. Serves as an injury prevention resource within the Trauma Services Department.
8. Assess educational needs for nursing staff, allied health professionals, pre-hospitalist service and the community.
9. Develop and implement educational programs for nursing staff, allied health professionals, medical staff, and pre-hospital services.
10. Interacts with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies regarding trauma related education and initiatives to improve trauma care.
11. Assists with the development of trauma education for staff, physicians, patients and the community.
12. Facilitate and development of interagency and interfacility quality improvement.
13. Identifies appropriate funding sources such as grants and completes application process and required reporting.
14. Functions as a liaison to participate in various hospital committees.
15. Works collaboratively with staff, clinicians and community partners on specific research related initiatives and studies on injury prevention programs.
16. Provides leadership and coordination for the in-house screening and brief intervention program for injured patients to meet American College of Surgeons requirements.
17. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and clinical protocols for the trauma service in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Credentials

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (Required)
  • Paramedic or RN (Required) with at least 3- 5 years of experience in Trauma setting.
