What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal, Grades 9-Post Grad, CRLS position at Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School?
Position: Principal
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS), (Grade 9 - Post-Grad)
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS):
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is one of the most diverse public high schools in Massachusetts, representing more than 83 countries and a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and lived experiences. Within this vibrant community, students engage in a challenging, rigorous, and supportive learning environment that prepares them for postsecondary success and meaningful participation in a just society.
The school is organized into four Learning Communities—C, R, L, and S—each serving approximately 500 students. Students remain in the same Learning Community throughout high school, enabling strong, sustained relationships with their Dean, Guidance Counselor, Social Worker, School Psychologist, and Clerk. These communities provide a smaller academic “home” where students can access personalized support, encouragement, and guidance.
CRLS operates on a 4x4 Block Schedule consisting of four 85-minute periods per day. This model:
- Deepens active learning and instructional engagement
- Offers opportunities to “double up” on courses in the same year
- Reduces nightly course load and materials
- Provides flexibility for sequential coursework, including up to six levels of Spanish and French, and multi-course pathways in Arabic, Mandarin, Latin, and American Sign Language
The CRLS course catalogue reflects extraordinary breadth, including offerings such as Computer Science, African American History, Leadership & Community Action, Robotics, Oceanography, Modern Dance Company, Digital Film & TV Production, Statistics & Probability, Psychology & Literature, and Advanced Acting and Directing.
Additionally, CRLS houses the Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA), a comprehensive career and technical education program, and the High School Extension Program (HSEP), a smaller, non-traditional high school option located nearby at 359 Broadway.
