What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineering Technician position at Cambridge Recruiters?
Electrical Engineering Technician
Cardiac Implantable Device | Series B Medical Device Startup
Company Overview
Fast-growing medical device startup developing next-generation implantable cardiac device, with diagnostic sensor technologies that enable earlier detection, better monitoring, and improved outcomes for patients with Heart Failure. Having recently closed our Series B funding, we are expanding our technical team to support prototype builds, testing, and scaling from advanced prototypes into regulated manufacturing.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-driven company at a pivotal growth stage and make a direct impact on a life-saving technology.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Technician (R&D Focus) with deep hands-on experience in microelectronics, precision wire soldering, and PCB assembly. This role is heavily focused on R&D support, working side-by-side with engineers to build, iterate, modify, and troubleshoot early-stage and next-generation implantable cardiac sensor designs.
The ideal candidate thrives in a startup environment—someone who enjoys ambiguity, rapid iteration, and hands-on problem-solving. You will play a critical role in transforming concepts into functional prototypes and supporting design verification as we move toward early manufacturing.
Medical device experience is preferred but not required. Candidates from aerospace, defense, semiconductor, robotics, or other high-reliability industries are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Support R&D engineering teams through hands-on assembly, modification, and iteration of implantable device prototypes
- Perform precision micro-soldering on fine-pitch PCB assemblies and ultra-fine gauge wires under microscope
- Assemble and rework implantable microelectronic assemblies, cables, and connectors
- Build devices from early prototypes through DVT-level assemblies
- Read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, assembly drawings, and BOMs
- Troubleshoot electrical, interconnect, and assembly-level issues during development and testing
- Partner closely with engineers during debugging, testing, and failure analysis
- Document builds, changes, and observations to support rapid design iteration
- Maintain ESD discipline, cleanliness, and controlled handling practices suitable for implantable electronics
- Help develop and refine assembly processes, fixtures, and work instructions as designs mature
- Support the transition from R&D builds to early manufacturing and pilot production
Required Qualifications
- 5–8 years of hands-on experience as an Electrical Technician supporting R&D or advanced engineering teams
- Micro-soldering and fine-gauge wire soldering (under microscope)
- PCB assembly, rework, and modification
- Miniaturized cables and harness assemblies
- Proven ability to support rapid prototyping and design iteration
- Comfortable working from incomplete or evolving documentation
- Proficiency using soldering stations, microscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and lab bench equipment
- Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate closely with engineers
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with implantable medical devices or highly miniaturized electronics
- Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001)
- Experience working in cleanroom or controlled lab environments
- Exposure to design controls, EVT/DVT builds, or regulated product development
- Experience supporting low-volume, high-complexity R&D builds
- Comfort wearing multiple hats and contributing beyond a narrow job scope
What We Offer
- Competitive salary with meaningful equity as an early team member
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
- 401(k) with company match
- Generous PTO and paid holidays
- High ownership, visibility, and influence on a mission-critical implantable product
- A collaborative, hands-on culture where technical contributions are valued
- The opportunity to help shape processes, tools, and best practices as the company scales
