Program administrator Senior Teacher, Cambridge Math Circle

Full-time; 50% remote, 50% traveling/on-site throughout Cambridge, MA

Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children? Do you love math and wish it was taught in a way that was more appealing to kids? Do you enjoy managing multiple projects at the same time? If so, this is the job for you!

Cambridge Math Circle (CMC) is a math enrichment program that serves children in grades K-8 who need math support and challenge beyond the classroom, but whose families often cannot afford traditional private programs. Since the pandemic CMC has experienced rapid growth and is now seeking to add a Program Administrator. The ideal candidate is a person who has pursued a math or STEM degree in college and graduate school, and may have worked professionally in a STEM field afterwards. The applicant should be passionate about math education and enjoy logic puzzles and problem solving, and whole-heartedly believe in CMC’s mission: to provide math enrichment, critical thinking and logic skills to all children - especially those who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM.

CMC started in 2018 and has grown from an organization serving 20 students per week to one that is actively serving over 450 students per week. We run in-school programs, in Cambridge and BostonPublic Schools, and community-based classes that meet online and in-person. We are seeking a professional that will have the skills, sensitivity, and experience to teach our curricula and can also support the general building of the organization when not in the classroom.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Program Administrator is directly responsible for organizing the Cambridge Math Circle classes, including helping hire and interview teachers, updating lesson plans and creating new ones (if desired), assigning teachers to classes, and maintaining communication with teachers and parents. They also take a regular leading role in some of the classes, while  stepping in when a regular teacher calls out.  The ability to get oneself to a variety of locations throughout Cambridge and Boston is required.

When not in the classroom, the Program Administrator will help develop best practices for the organization, work on the curriculum, and support other administrative tasks as needed.  This is a full-time, 40-hours per week job.

Overall, the Program Administrator will ensure a smooth running of an organization serving 450 students weekly. They will create and foster relationships with students, and ensure all students in the class are making progress through the material. They will also help identify students that are struggling or need additional challenging work, and will coordinate with the Executive Director to come up with plans to meet both needs as necessary.

The Program Administrator will work in collaboration and close partnership with the Executive Director of CMC and other CMC teachers.

The work of the Program Administrator falls into 3 main categories.
