About CEOCCambridge Economic Opportunity Committee (CEOC) is a 501(c)(3) anti-poverty nonprofit organization and the City’s designated Community Action Agency (CAA). CEOC was established in 1965 as part of the federal "War on Poverty." Our mission is to empower people and mobilize resources to fight poverty's causes and impacts through education and organizing. We provide direct services to low-income individuals and families (i.e., free tax preparation, SNAP applications, food pantry, housing assistance, etc.) and advocacy and outreach work in the community. We prioritize populations that are frequently under-served: low-wage earners, individuals whose primary language is not English, those with disabilities, those living in subsidized housing, and seniors. The Role:CEOC is seeking a Financial Empowerment Manager to assist in both oversight and implementation of CEOC’s Financial Empowerment Programming, including 1:1 financial coaching, financial education workshops, FAFSA assistance, Social Security Administration benefits (SSI, SSDI, social security retirement benefits), and tax preparation. We’re seeking applicants from all backgrounds to join our team. Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop and provide workshops to community-based organizations on financial education topics, college savings and financial aidProvide individual financial education/coaching to youth and adultsProvide tax preparation services through CEOC’s VITA programProvide assistance and advocacy through the maze of public benefit programs applications to ensure access for eligible peopleProvide FAFSA completion and follow-up assistance at CEOC office and at community-based organizationsCollect and compile data on program outcomes and report out periodicallyBuild relationships with community-based organizations and conduct outreach to schedule new workshops and build partnershipsProvide supervision and leadership to other Financial Empowerment staffComplete other duties that are relevant to the work of the Department, the agency, and the community Required QualificationsTwo years of work experience in personal finance, education, social services, community organizing or a related field required. Knowledge in financial education services to low- and moderate-income individuals preferred.Two years of supervisory experience.Ability to work independently as well as part of a teamAbility to work and build relationships with diverse populations, with culturally competent practices.Ability to think strategically and use good judgmentExcellent interpersonal communication skills1-2 years of experience at a community-based organization in Cambridge, or robust familiarity with Cambridge’s communities and resources preferredDetail-oriented, self-motivated, ability to multi-task, provide quick responses and highly organized.Computer literacy with proficiency in web-based communications, word processing, Excel and PowerPoint.Ability and willingness to learn, innate curiosity, and humility.Ability to think strategically and use good judgmentBilingual preferred. Physical demands This position is classified as sedentary work. The physical demands required to perform the essential functions of sedentary work include exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally. Sedentary work requires about 6 hours of sitting and no more than 2 hours of standing or walking in an 8-hour workday. No significant stooping is usually required.
