Position Summary
The Safety Technician supports the execution of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and guidelines across CAM operations. Acting as the “boots on the ground,” this role monitors field conditions, supports incident investigations, conducts audits, and works closely with employees, contractors, and site leadership to maintain a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, audits, and field walkthroughs to identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the implementation and enforcement of safe work practices, including permit-to-work, confined space, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), hot work, and other critical safety protocols.
- Assist in incident investigations: collect data, perform root cause analysis, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and follow up to ensure implementation.
- Maintain and review safety performance data (leading and lagging indicators); contribute to reports and trend analysis to reduce incidents and near-misses.
- Provide or coordinate safety/EHSS training, toolbox talks, job safety analyses (JSAs), and behavioral safety observations.
- Ensure work areas, equipment, and tools comply with site safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with contractors and subcontractors to ensure alignment with CAM’s safety expectations and regulatory compliance.
- Keep records and documentation up to date, including safety records, inspection reports, audit results, corrective actions, and regulatory filings.
- Participate in management of change processes, supporting risk assessments, reviewing modifications for safety impacts, and ensuring proper approvals.
- Support industrial hygiene and process safety tasks as required (e.g., air monitoring, chemical exposure controls, PPE evaluations).
- Create incident reports and assist in audits to ensure conformity in all HSE areas.
- Stay informed of regulatory requirements and auditing standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of systems and standards to facilitate the capturing and analysis of HSE statistics.
- Entry-level to 3-5 years of experience in safety/EHSS or a related role in industrial construction, maintenance, or chemical manufacturing preferred.
- Familiarity with OSHA 1910 and 1926 regulations required; knowledge of local, provincial/state, and federal safety regulations is an asset.
- Strong skills in incident investigation, hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety auditing.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to deliver training and present findings clearly.
- Proficiency with MS Office and safety management or incident tracking software.
- Certifications preferred/desirable: OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, CHP (Certified Health & Safety Practitioner) or equivalent, industrial hygiene fundamentals.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, able to work effectively both independently in the field and as part of a team.
