Position Summary:
The Building Services Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of assigned academic buildings. This role ensures a welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors by performing cleaning and maintenance tasks across public areas, classrooms, restrooms, and offices.
Key Responsibilities:
Public Areas Maintenance:
- Clean lobbies, hallways, and public areas by emptying trash, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and cleaning glass to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and safety.
- Sanitize restrooms by mopping floors, cleaning fixtures, restocking supplies, and emptying trash to maintain hygiene and ensure adequate supplies at all times.
- Maintain classrooms by dusting, emptying trash, and cleaning glass, ensuring the cleanliness and readiness of these spaces for daily use.
- Respond to office cleaning request received through the work order request system.
- Respond to work orders for special office cleaning requests and assist with project-based cleaning tasks such as stripping and refinishing floors or carpet extraction.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, ensuring availability as needed.
- Clean and care for equipment, reporting any damaged or missing tools to the supervisor promptly.
- Offer assistance to colleagues or respond to inquiries to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement in custodial services.
This position does not supervise other employees.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required. A one-year certificate from a college or technical school is beneficial.
- No prior experience required, although commercial cleaning experience is helpful.
- Multiple years of on-the-job training or apprenticeship in custodial work is preferred.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to be on call during emergencies.
- Basic communication skills, including reading, speaking, listening, and writing.
- Attention to detail in following cleaning procedures and instructions.
