- Assist providers during patient visits and procedures as needed.
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Review and reconcile medications, allergies, and medical histories.
- Monitor and manage provider schedules to support efficient patient flow.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, nutrition guidelines, lifestyle modifications, and follow-up instructions when needed.
- Coordinate laboratory testing, imaging, referrals, and prior authorizations.
- Support medication management processes, including weight loss medication documentation and refill requests.
- Maintain exam rooms, medical supplies, and equipment in accordance with infection prevention and safety standards.
- Answer patient phone calls, portal messages, and clinical inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with insurance verifications, prior authorizations, and documentation requirements.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure HIPAA compliance.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and workflow optimization efforts.
- Foster a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for patients.
- Demonstrate empathy and professionalism when working with patients experiencing obesity and chronic health conditions.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, dietitians, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Support program growth initiatives and patient retention efforts.
- Education:
- High School diploma or GED; some college preferred.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Registration/Certification/Licensure:
- Current Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
- Experience with EMR systems preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance authorization processes, and clinical workflows.
- Active Basic Life Support certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical experience preferred, ideally in weight management, bariatrics, primary care, endocrinology, or internal medicine.
- Position requires at least 6 months of medical office experience, with direct patient contact experience, and use of electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
- Prior Authorization experience preferred.
- Basic computer and typing skills; familiarity with medical terminology, required.
- Phlebotomy and point of care testing experience is a plus.
- Other Requirements:
- Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements.
- Excellent customer service skills. Must demonstrate compassion, friendliness, courtesy and tactfulness with all patient and caregiver interactions.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of providers, office staff, and administrators while serving patients and caregivers, and with the ability to effectively engage with extended care teams (such as specialists, insurers, and pharmacies); must be organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting.
- Must be efficient and conscientious in preparing for and delivering medical care.
- Requires an awareness of patient confidentiality and ability to follow directions well, be engaged and work with minimal guidance.
