The Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in expanding Calvert Safe Housing Network's impact throughout the community while ensuring survivors receive compassionate, trauma informed support. This position is responsible for coordinating community outreach and prevention education efforts, recruiting and managing volunteers, providing direct advocacy to survivors, and supporting daily shelter operations.
The ideal candidate is an organized, compassionate professional with strong communication skills who is passionate about serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Coordinate and participate in community outreach events, prevention education, and awareness campaigns.
- Build and maintain partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, faith communities, and other stakeholders.
- Represent Calvert Safe Housing Network at community meetings, fairs, trainings, and collaborative initiatives.
- Develop outreach materials and presentations that support the organization's mission and branding.
Volunteer Coordination
- Recruit, screen, onboard, and train volunteers to support shelter operations and agency programs.
- Collaborate with the Crisis Intervention and Clinical Coordinator to ensure adequate volunteer coverage for the crisis hotline.
- Maintain volunteer records, training materials, schedules, and ongoing communications.
Advocacy & Survivor Support
- Provide direct advocacy, safety planning, emotional support, housing referrals, and resource navigation for survivors.
- Assist survivors in accessing shelter, transportation, legal services, public benefits, and other community resources.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client documentation in accordance with agency policies.
Shelter Operations
- Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and trauma informed shelter environment.
- Enforce shelter policies while preserving a supportive, survivor centered approach.
- Assist with resident check in and check out procedures as needed.
- Complete daily operational tasks including activity logs, sign in sheets, and communication between shifts.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure continuity of care for residents.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, trainings, and professional development.
- Participate in on call responsibilities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Lived experience with domestic violence and/or housing insecurity will be considered equally alongside professional and educational experience.
- Experience in domestic violence services, crisis intervention, advocacy, volunteer coordination, case management, or community outreach preferred.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence is strongly preferred.
- Excellent public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to trauma informed, survivor centered, and culturally responsive services.
- Ability to travel locally for outreach events and community meetings.
- Ability to work a combination of on site, shift based, and remote work while managing competing priorities effectively.

Pay: $49,418.61 - $59,514.89 per year
