This is a temporary position to cover a Teacher Assistant currently on FMLA leave. The assignment begins on July 13, 2026, with one or two training days the week of July 6th. The position is anticipated to continue through October 2026; however, the actual end date will depend on the employee's leave status. Calvary Christian Academy is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher Assistant within our Elementary School to join our Substitute Team for the remainder of the academic year. Under the direction of the lead teacher, the Substitute Teacher Assistant supports students in their educational, physical, and spiritual development. This role also assists the teacher in all duties related to classroom instruction and daily activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Under the direction of the teacher, assist students in comprehending all curriculum and instruction in alignment with school policy and biblical philosophy. -Support the teacher with grading and scoring classroom homework and tests. -Maintain and direct “safe play” during recess and breaks. -Assist AM and/or PM aides with outside supervision before and after school. -Ensure proper care of all equipment and supplies, including cleaning and disinfecting. -Report any student behavior concerns to the teacher promptly. -Communicate daily with the teacher or principal regarding any concerns or observations related to students and/or parents. -Ensure visitors are properly identified, checked in, and directed to the appropriate administrative offices. -Attend chapel with students. -Be ready to pray with and support students, parents, and families as a minister of the Gospel. -Assist with general classroom housekeeping tasks.
Requirements / Qualifications
-High School diploma required. -Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum and ability to meet grade-level competencies. -Strong communication skills and proficiency with school technology. -Ability to multitask and remain composed under pressure. -Ability to read, understand, and present curriculum effectively, and respond appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from parents or staff. -Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and percentages. -Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. -TB certification required. -Ability to make basic decisions within the classroom. -Capable of presenting, organizing, and conveying problems or issues to the teacher or principal in a supportive manner. -Model appropriate behavior consistent with Calvary Christian Academy/ Calvary Chapel San Diego values.
