$116,000 – $120,000 per year (Prevailing Wage Projects)

Lead small crews while staying hands-on with high-quality electrical installation. Extensive EMT conduit installation required.

Calray Electric is seeking an experienced Lead Journeyman Electrician (Working Foreman) to lead small electrical crews on DoD and federal facility projects throughout Southern California.

This role is ideal for electricians who take pride in clean conduit installations, precise technical work, and maintaining high workmanship standards while directing the day-to-day work of a small crew.

This is a hands-on field leadership role, not an office or administrative position.

Position Overview

The Lead Journeyman serves as a working crew leader, directing daily field installation while remaining actively involved in electrical work.

This position typically leads 2–4 electricians or apprentices, coordinating installation tasks, maintaining productivity, and ensuring work is performed safely and to specification.

Most of the workday is spent performing electrical installation alongside the crew.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead small electrical crews on DoD and federal projects
  • Install EMT and rigid conduit systems
  • Perform layout and installation of feeders, panels, switchgear, and electrical equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
  • Direct daily work assignments and maintain installation quality
  • Maintain jobsite productivity and work standards
  • Coordinate with Project Management regarding scheduling, materials, and project priorities
  • Mentor and support apprentice development
  • Maintain clean and organized jobsite work areas
  • Follow all safety and federal site security procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Active California Journeyman Electrician License (Required)
  • Minimum 6 years electrical experience
  • Strong EMT conduit bending and layout skills (Required)
  • Experience leading small crews or mentoring electricians
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and specifications
  • OSHA 30 preferred
  • Valid driver’s license

Experience working on federal, military, healthcare, or institutional projects is preferred.

Work Environment

  • Department of Defense and federal facilities
  • Security-sensitive job sites
  • Structured project environments with defined safety procedures
  • Projects primarily located in San Diego County and surrounding Southern California regions

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical electrical installation work
  • Climb ladders and work at heights
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions

Employment Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment and periodic drug screening
  • Must pass background screening required for access to federal facilities
  • Must be eligible to work on Department of Defense installations
  • Must comply with all jobsite safety and security procedures
