About the Role:
Callen-Lorde is seeking a dynamic Supervisor of Community Outreach & Education to lead our mission-aligned public health initiatives. As a key member of the Communications team, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing community-based outreach, health education, and engagement efforts that advance Callen-Lorde’s mission and public health priorities. This role is central to managing community partnerships in diverse settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Outreach & Content Development

Develop and edit social media content and physical materials (fliers, palm cards) to promote health education.

Lead awareness campaigns featuring both virtual and in-person components.

Produce opportunities for tabling in non-traditional settings like nightlife venues and ballroom events.
Team Supervision & Leadership

Supervise and provide real-time direction to Peer Consultants during evening and weekend field activities.

Manage the full recruitment cycle, onboarding, and performance management for outreach staff.

Foster a positive, equitable work environment and resolve internal conflicts effectively.
Integration & Analytics

Collaborate with the EVP of Public Policy and Communications to align outreach with organizational priorities.

Track performance metrics for all initiatives, providing reports on PrEP initiation, vaccination appointments, and kit distribution.

Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR) as required.
Work Schedule:
This full-time position is typically from Monday - Friday and is adjusted for evening and weekend events.

Qualifications:Qualifications (Education, Certifications, Experience, Skills)

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business Administration, or health field.

3-5 years of experience in health communications and community engagement preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit setting

1-2 years previous supervisory and management experience is preferred.

Proficiency in digital communications, including social media and other printable materials

Creative thinker with the ability to generate new ideas and approaches to storytelling and content creation

A track record of building diverse, high-performing teams and cross functional partnerships.

Prior experience in a social services or healthcare setting and/or a non-profit organization highly desirable.

Effective communication skills with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.

Ability to meet deadlines associated with monthly reports and grant deliverables

Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under stress in a dynamic environment, managing patient care needs effectively.
