Digital Templator/ CNC Programmer / CAD Drafter

Job Summary
California Tile and Stone delivers exceptional custom natural stone and engineered quartz fabrication and installation for high-end residential projects across the Bay Area. We are seeking a skilled Digital Templator / CNC Operator & Programmer / CAD Drafter to work closely alongside our Shop Manager in a collaborative, precision-driven shop environment.

This role combines hands-on digital templating, drafting, layout expertise, CNC programming, and equipment upkeep—focusing on the technical backbone of our luxury residential work. It offers strong growth potential: master these core skills, contribute to project success, and advance toward senior fabrication roles, supervisory duties, or even Shop Manager as you demonstrate leadership and full ownership of the digital-to-production process.

You will drive a company vehicle to upscale residential sites for laser templating, then execute the remaining digital steps back in the Gilroy shop to ensure every piece meets the exacting standards of luxury clients.

Responsibilities

• Drive to high-end residential job sites in a company-provided vehicle to perform accurate laser templating using advanced digital measurement systems, capturing precise dimensions for custom countertops, islands, vanities, backsplashes, fireplaces, and architectural features
• Create detailed shop drawings in CAD software from laser templates, blueprints, and client specifications
• Develop optimized slab layouts with precise vein matching, book-matching, and material efficiency to maximize beauty and minimize waste on premium natural stones and quartz
• Program and operate CNC machines (bridge saws, routers, etc.) using software such as AlphaCAM, or equivalent to generate accurate tool paths, cut sequences, and fabrication instructions
• Perform routine machine maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting on CNC equipment, laser templating tools to ensure reliability and precision
• Collaborate daily with the Shop Manager on production planning, quality verification, schedule alignment with office and field teams, and problem-solving for complex projects
• Maintain accurate records of templates, drawings, layouts, programs, and approvals to support seamless fabrication and installation
• Adhere to all OSHA safety standards, quartz manufacturer protocols, and company quality guidelines for defect-free, warranty-compliant products

Requirements

• 2 years of experience in stone/quartz fabrication with emphasis on digital templating, CAD drafting, CNC operation/programming, or closely related technical roles
• Proven hands-on experience with laser templating equipment and processes
• Proficiency in CAD software for shop drawings and familiarity with CNC programming basics
• Valid California driver’s license with a clean record and confidence driving a company truck to luxury homes
• Strong attention to detail, spatial visualization skills, and passion for delivering flawless results in high-end residential settings Ability to work independently on-site while excelling in a team-oriented shop under Shop Manager guidance

Preferred Skills

• Experience with AlphaCAM or similar CAD/CAM software for stone fabrication programming Familiarity with SlabSmith or comparable vein-matching/layout software for digital slab optimization
• Prior work in Bay Area luxury residential countertop or stone shops
• Knowledge of premium materials (exotic stones, high-end quartz brands) and systems (e.g., Laticrete)
• OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) for client and team interactions
