Department

The purpose of the Vice President of Student Affairs Office at Cal State Fullerton is to transform the lives of the students academically, personally and professionally, equipping all with the knowledge and skills required for success. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Engagement and Student Success Marketing Communications Professional II. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief of Operations in the Division of Student Affairs, the Engagement and Student Success Marketing Communications Professional II works with the College Engagement and Student Success cluster (Athletics Academic Services, Center for Scholars, Male Success Initiative, Educational Opportunity Programs and First Generation Student Initiatives, TRIO Student Support Services, Veterans Resource Center, Transfer, Adult, Parenting and Pregnant Students Center, the Director of Resources Planning) to coordinate and implement communication plans for programs and services offered by these departments, including recruitment and admissions materials for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) summer bridge program. Develops, implements, and maintains branding and marketing materials for the Engagement and Student Success cluster ensuring consistent application across print, web, social media, digital, and other communication platforms. Consults with Engagement and Student Success cluster leadership and program staff to align messaging, content, and design with cluster priorities and strategic goals. Ensures all marketing and communication materials comply with university branding standards and accessibility requirements in partnership with Strategic Communications. Manages day-to-day related tasks, as well as long-term planning and strategy in communication creation and process improvement. Creates promotional videos by developing storyboards, filming content, and editing footage with integrated motion graphics to highlight cluster programs and services.

The Engagement and Student Success Marketing Communications Professional II creates and applies divisional and departmental brand guidelines and develops printed and digital materials in support of the Engagement and Student Success cluster and the other areas. This is done in alignment and collaboration with the other marketing professionals across the division of Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management. Assists with planning, organizing, and implementing social media campaigns for the Engagement and Student Success cluster, including conducting basic market research and providing guidance or training to staff and student teams on effective social media practices. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Under general supervision, creates engaging content and develops and implements marketing campaigns, communication plans, and initiatives. Applies professional level knowledge of the marketing and/or communications fields, including working knowledge of a specialty area. Collaborates with various stakeholders to enhance the university’s brand image, promote programs and achievements, and engage with internal and external audiences. Works independently on most day-to-day assignments with general supervision on new assignments or projects to ensure alignment with objectives. Handles multiple work priorities and is accountable for own work results. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment.

Working skills and knowledge of marketing, communications, public relations, branding, and/or related disciplines. Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations. Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media. Skilled in developing and implementing marketing and/or communications strategies and campaigns. Strong project planning and organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple marketing projects. Strong composition and editing skills to quickly produce clear and concise standard documents for internal and external publication. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to create and deliver marketing initiatives and campaigns. Ability to provide lead work direction and training to others. Proficiency in using communication and marketing software and tools.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, educational technology, or related fields. Experience supporting marketing needs for a department, office, or division on a college campus or comparable organization. Experience creating system documentation and conducting user interviews and training. Knowledge of current trends in higher education marketing and recruiting. Experience working with institutions of higher education. Experience working on a college campus.

License/Certifications

A valid California driver’s license and/or reliable source of transportation.
