Job/Department Summary:


The University Diversity Officer (UDO) reports directly to the President and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. The UDO will provide counsel to the President and Cabinet on equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) matters and leads the University EDI strategy, initiatives, and assessment efforts with the ultimate goal of having every member of our campus community knowing they belong and are supported by the campus community.


The UDO collaborates with Cabinet and other University units and offices across campus to advance institutional priorities and goals related to EDI. The UDO works regularly with Vice Presidents and divisions to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective initiatives across campus. In this role, the UDO models inclusive leadership practices in public settings, reinforcing institutional values through visible engagement, active participation, partnership, and consistent campus presence.


The UDO provides leadership to the University Diversity Council (UDC) and coordinates campus-wide efforts to expand pathways of success for all students, faculty, and staff particularly those from historically underserved populations. The UDO also assesses institutional progress and recommends continuous improvement strategies.


In addition, the UDO serves as the campus Point of Contact for immigration matters related to verifying the validity of immigration enforcement documents, and acts as the University liaison for the campus Time, Place, and Manner policy. The UDO also serves as the NCAA Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID), responsible for communication among the NCAA national office, athletics department, conference office, and campus regarding inclusion programs, emerging diversity issues, and related initiatives.


Required Education and Experience:


Must have the education and/or experience required to perform the duties of the assigned position, including:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in a related field.
  • AND
  • Five (5) or more years of full-time leadership or management experience, including demonstrated experience in a diversity related field. Experience must include knowledge of an experience with federal and state EDI compliance requirements, investigating and resolving complaints, directing and supervising staff, and developing, managing, and evaluating programs or projects.


Preferences:


Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • Master's Degree in higher education, public administration, organizational leadership, social work, public policy, or other closely related field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in higher education.
  • Over 7 years of experience in a senior-level diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, or civil rights leadership role
  • Over 7 years of experience supporting programs and initiatives that advance success for historically underserved and first-generation students.
  • Over 7 years of experience building external partnerships, securing resources, or leading institutional applications for recognition or designations related to equity and student success.


Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm

Anticipated Hiring Range: $203,000 - $210,000 per year. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Retreat rights to a faculty position may be negotiated with academic accomplishments appropriate for a faculty appointment.

The person holding this position is considered a "Limited Mandated Reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.


The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, this is a "designated position" under the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
