Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs, the Television Specialist (TVS) plans, organizes, directs and performs technical and professional work in connection with the writing and production of television and video tape-recorded programs.

Plans, organizes, and performs the technical and professional work required in producing television programs, including operation of television and video tape-recording production equipment; conducts subject research and develops scripts based on the most effective method of presentation; develops approach and production methods necessary to produce continuity and required story lines; directs the technical and artistic developmental of television programs including the preparation of artwork or animation, narration, dialogue, sound effects and music as required in the production; does creative editing; may select and direct film cast, narrators or other personnel involved in a production; may do still photography and processing.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential evaluation services can be found at NACES | National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Knowledge of techniques or television production; sound recording; television photography, audio-visual principles and techniques; script writing; television staging and lighting; editing methods and equipment, basis electronic theory; television communication theory.
