Job Description and Duties

The Accounting Administrator (AA) I (Specialist) supports the FI$Cal system and helps departments use the FI$Cal system, works with the State Controller’s Office on Month-End and Year-End Close activities, and serves as a subject matter expert for the Accounts Payable area. The AA I (Specialist) provides customer support, researches and resolves system issues, and assists with change requests. In addition, the incumbent will provide Level 2 support to end users by helping resolve FI$Cal system incidents and service requests, ensuring timely communication and issue resolution.
Please note that to be list appointed for placement in the Accounting Administrator I (Specialist) classification, you must take and pass the examination.
Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay

Our department develops, maintains and operates FI$Cal, the statewide financial system. The FI$Cal system modernized how the state of California manages its finances and is one of the largest and most dynamic IT and business-transformation undertakings in California’s history. It eliminates the need for hundreds of independent legacy systems by combining the state’s accounting, budgeting, cash management, and procurement operations into a single financial-management system.

Our department has four Divisions: Administrative Services, Business Operation & Solutions, Information Technology and Executive.
This position is located in the Business Operation & Solutions Division (BOSD):
Business Operation & Solutions Division (BOSD), whose central mission is to ensure the effective delivery and positive reception of the FI$Cal solution. BOSD continues to provide effective support services, both onsite and remotely, to departmental stakeholders as it has in the past. BOSD also works closely with Partner Agencies to support month-end and year-end close
