WHAT WILL YOU DO?

As the Information Technology Specialist III focused on information security, you are responsible for all aspects of the information security program including designing and maintaining information security systems and controls, and monitoring existing systems to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data. You work with business partners to classify data and apply security controls as appropriate based on the classification. You train and mentor all staff in principles of information security and see that appropriate controls are applied in each situation.


Specifically, you will:

  • Design secure and robust on-premises and cloud infrastructure solutions in compliance with internal and external security requirements.
  • Develop security frameworks that ensure protection of data at rest, in transit, and during processing.
  • Create and maintain information security policies, practices, and procedures in compliance with internal and external security requirements.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of departmental and industry security standards and best practices and instruct IT staff in all areas of information security.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is eligible for participation in the office’s hybrid telework program. Work at the alternate work location must be in California and conducted in a space that is ergonomically sound, private, distraction-free, and has safe working conditions to be eligible to telework.
  • Work performed in the office is in an air-conditioned high-rise building with elevator access and both natural and artificial lighting.
  • Work may require sitting for an extended period of time using a personal computer and the use of standard office equipment, such as phones, copiers or scanners.
  • Work may require periodic non-standard work hours and work during weekends to meet workload needs and demands.

WHO ARE YOU?

  • You have a strong background in designing, implementing and maintaining information security systems including Next Generation Firewalls, Web Content Filtering, Network Security Tools, and VPN solutions.
  • You have experience with government data classification and implementing data loss prevention strategies.
  • You have knowledge of state government and industry standards related to information security.
  • You have experience gathering business requirements and applying those to information systems to ensure security and functionality meet all requirements.
  • You have experience in Technology Recovery and Incident Response planning.
  • You have experience training technical and non-technical staff on information technology and information security principles.
  • You work well with people from various backgrounds and are comfortable expressing technical information to stakeholders at all levels.
