Directs and coordinates all pharmacy services for the pharmacy in accordance with the established policies and standards as well as state and federal regulations, in the absence of the Pharmacist in Charge. Provides oversight for the quality and cost effectiveness of services provided. Has fiscal responsibilities in collaboration with senior management team for financial aspects of the specialty pharmacy services.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy
- Current, active, and in good standing Pharmacist license in the state of employment.
- Evaluate prescription orders for accuracy, validity, and appropriateness
- Prepare and dispense prescriptions in accordance with federal and state law
- Responsible for completing projects and responsibilities as assigned by the executive management team
- Attend appropriate training, seminars, and workshops, as required
Compounding Specific Duties
- Monitor refill call activity weekly to assure completion
- Maintain SOPs for sterile and non-sterile lab and cleaning logs, under the direct supervision of Director of Compounding
- Help to create master formulas
- Verify prescription orders and formula log sheets
- Report to CURES program for controlled substance monitoring
Specialty Pharmacy Specific Duties
- Responsible to verify scripts in CPR queues 7 and G
- Ensure all packages are shipped appropriately and in a timely manner
- Develop new clinical programs on Envoy for IVIG and other disease states as needed
- Successfully pass Certified Specialty Pharmacy certification within a year of employment
- Successfully pass IGNS Certification within a year of employment
- Serve as a drug information resource for patients, providers, and pharmacy staff
- Support Directors in daily business tasks
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
Required Competencies
- Competent in pharmacy computer systems (CPR , Envoy)
- Proper communication with other pharmacists and healthcare providers (follow-up notes, phone calls, etc.)
- Patient consultation on all new prescriptions and per patient request with proper documentation (medication use, storage, refill procedures, common side effects, administration, and disposal of expired medications)
- Medication labeling and dispensing procedures
- Ordering medications/products/supplies from various suppliers to maintain adequate inventory
- Accurate prescription dispensing/verification
- Ability to resolve problems such as employee disputes and customer service issues
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects
- Ability to perform pharmacy services while providing direct oversight of pharmacy staff
- Ability to interact constructively with managers, peers, and support personnel
- Follow all applicable government regulations including HIPAA
- Perform additional duties as required
