Child Development Teacher

Status: Part-Time Days: M-F  Hours: 2:00pm-6:00pm Non-School Days: 7:30am-5:00pm

BASIC FUNCTION:Under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor, this position assumes responsibility for the education, health and safety of children enrolled in the Child Development Center. Plans and implements developmentally appropriate experiences and projects for assigned children that focus on: scientific inquiry, math development, emergent literacy, global awareness, communication and social, emotional, creative and physical well-being.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Plans, prepares, and implements program and experiences in support of the curriculum according to the specific age and development of each individual child; prepares a weekly lesson plan that outlines the learning activities, goals, and objectives.

Modifies the indoor and outdoor classroom environments to meet the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.

Supervises planned lessons in a classroom and outdoor setting; worked with groups of children in a variety of activities in a warm and positive manner while maintaining order and positive guidance.

 

Arranges classroom environment according to the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) or School-Age Care Environmental Rating Scale (SACERS); creates ongoing bulletin boards for projects.

Maintains a clean, healthy, safe, and orderly indoor and outdoor environment by following Center policies and procedures for health and safety related issues.

Observes and documents each individual child's growth and development on a continuous basis; documents each child's growth and development through pictures, anecdotal notes, and sample work; implements state required Desired Result Development Profile (DRDP) Assessment for each child twice per year.

Maintains appropriate records and completes assigned paperwork and reports in an accurate and timely manner; maintains complete attendance reports.

Communicates with parents and staff to develop positive, reciprocal relationships; conducts formal parent/teacher conferences twice a year to discuss assessments; conducts other conferences as needed.

 

Attends and participates in professional group meetings, conferences and workshops; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the field of child development; incorporates new developments as appropriate.

Participates in monthly staff meetings; four night staff meetings; acts as a member of a team during any Child Development Program or Center special event.

ABILITY TO:Plan, prepare, and implement daily, weekly, and monthly curriculumDevine and interpret curriculum goals and objectivesDevelop and implement instructional and recreational activities according to the needs of the children and center policyInstruct and supervise children of various ages involved in child development center activitiesDevelop and maintained effective relationships with preschool and school-aged children, students, parents and staffUnderstand interpret and apply general and specific administrative and departmental policies and procedures as well as applicable federal, state, and local policies laws and regulationsObserve evaluate and record the children's developmentRecognize and define present and potential behavioral and learning problems of childrenApply appropriate disciplinary actionPrepare for and conduct parent conferences

Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the communityWork with and exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the varied racial, ethnic, cultural, sexual orientation, socio-economic, and disabled population of familiesCommunicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Department of Education orMultiple Subject CredentialCPR and First Aid certification

 

Compensation: $21.31-$34.70 per hour
