Job Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of facility systems and equipment. This includes performing routine maintenance, addressing repairs, and coordinating with vendors and contractors as needed. The primary goal is to maintain a safe, clean, and functional facility that meets operational standards and regulatory requirements.
The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is expected to work independently, handle maintenance issues promptly, and respond to after-hours and on-call emergencies as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training facility maintenance or related field preferred.
- 3 – 5 years of relevant work experience in facility maintenance or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of building systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and general maintenance practices.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other staff and vendors.
- Experience in facility maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping, ranching, farming, animal care, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to safely operate landscaping and groundskeeping equipment, including lawn mowers, weed trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, and related tools.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and other relevant safety regulations.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Current TB test results, valid ID, and background check clearance
- Experience caring for livestock or farm animals preferred.
- Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Facility Maintenance & Operations
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building infrastructure.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and safety audits to identify and address maintenance issues.
- Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Coordinate and schedule approved vendors and service providers, including pest control, landscaping, waste management, and other contracted maintenance services as needed.
- Respond to facility-related emergencies, such as plumbing leaks, electrical failures, and HVAC issues, including after-hours situations.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including fire safety, OSHA, and building codes.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and completed repairs.
- Monitor facility supplies and equipment, ensuring timely procurement and inventory management.
- Assist with facility setup, furniture moves, bed assembly/replacement, storage organization, and other operational support projects.
- Collaborate with program staff to identify and address day-to-day facility needs affecting client and staff operations.
B. Groundskeeping and Property Maintenance
- Mow lawns, trim grass, edge walkways, and maintain landscaped areas.
- Remove weeds, debris, leaves, and litter from facility grounds.
- Prune shrubs, bushes, and trees as needed.
- Assist with irrigation system monitoring and minor repairs.
- Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of parking lots, walkways, fences, and outdoor common areas.
- Perform seasonal landscaping and grounds maintenance projects.
C. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Identify and report safety hazards and maintenance concerns.
- Facilitate and assist with emergency response and facility safety initiatives.
- Facilitate and assist with routine safety checks and emergency, fire, and disaster drills.
- Evaluate maintenance issues and escalate significant repairs, capital projects, or major system failures to the Program Director for review and approval.
D. Goat Care & Animal Area Maintenance
- Feed and provide fresh water to facility goats.
- Monitor goats for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior and report concerns to management.
- Clean and maintain goat enclosures, shelters, feeding stations, and surrounding areas.
- Inspect and repair fencing as needed to ensure animal safety and containment.
- Maintain sanitary conditions in all animal care areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
