Job Summary


 

Based at the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, California, theDirector of Marketing & Communications (550886) plays a key role in shaping how Cal Poly’s newest academic unit, Cal Poly Maritime Academy, tells its story. The position also helps strengthen Cal Poly Maritime Academy’s unique identity and history while supporting and driving Cal Poly’s overarching goals.


 

Department Summary


 

As Cal Poly Maritime Academy continues its integration into Cal Poly, this role will be instrumental in streamlining internal and external communications from top to bottom, while also working across units and stakeholder groups to improve coordination, support cultural alignment and help strengthen systems and best practices.


 

Key Qualifications


 

  • Demonstrated experience developing and leading strategic communications plans across channels and audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and editorial skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences and platforms.
  • Ability to distill complex or sensitive topics into clear, effective content for internal and external use.
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively across diverse teams and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience advising leadership and navigating communications related to institutional priorities, change and reputational risk.

Education and Experience


 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications and/or brand management. A graduate degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits


 

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000. Note that the offer is calculated based on the background and relevant years of experience of the individual selected.


 

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
