SUMMARY: The Senior Developer – Special Projects will serve as a high-impact technical innovator, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing specialized software solutions that drive strategic initiatives across the organization. This position combines the technical depth of a senior full-stack developer with the architectural mindset to guide integration and modernization initiatives across multiple systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and can move seamlessly between hands-on development, solution design, and cross-functional collaboration.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, cloud-based applications and integrations across internal and client-facing systems.
  • Architect modular solutions leveraging Azure, AWS, and Microsoft 365 ecosystems.
  • Develop & implement APIs, automation workflows, and data pipelines for interoperability between healthcare platforms (HL7, CCDA, FHIR, X12).
  • Prototype, test, and launch innovative tools and applications aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and business teams to deliver on complex, cross-departmental projects.
  • Serve as technical mentor to junior developers and contractors to maintain code quality and technical consistency.
  • Participate in system integration planning, technical due diligence, vendor evaluations, and M&A integrations when needed.
  • Build integrations with EHR and analytical tools for improved business intelligence and workflow efficiency.
  • Lead performance optimization and application refactoring initiatives to reduce costs and improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support application performance and reporting.
  • Ensure code quality, documentation, and adherence to established standards across all development activities.
  • Design and maintain database schemas, indexes, and data models for analytics and operational workflows.
  • Create and automate reports and dashboards for stakeholders using SQL and reporting tools.
  • Translate business and stakeholder requirements into actionable technical roadmaps.
  • Document architecture decisions and contribute to long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Contribute to the development of internal products, proof-of-concepts, and experimental features that support future scalability.
  • Identify automation and efficiency opportunities across operations and data systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to organizational success.


BACKGROUND CHECK ELIGIBLE DUTIES

This position will have access to various applications that house confidential information, including county records, employee demographic and private behavioral health information, as well as protected health information (PHI) subject to HIPAA regulations. The role requires system-level access to develop, test, and deploy integrations across healthcare platforms and databases containing sensitive patient and organizational data. The incumbent must ensure that all access is used responsibly, maintaining the integrity and security of systems while preventing accidental or malicious misuse, and adhering to all applicable data security and compliance standards.


Qualifications:

An acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and skill will be considered.


EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years in software development, architecture, and technical project leadership roles.
  • Experience with CRMs (Salesforce, HubSpot), analytics tools, and API-first design.
  • Background in leading cross-functional teams, managing vendors, and executing complex product rollouts.
  • Experience in healthcare informatics, EHR development, and patient engagement platforms.
  • Proven success designing and deploying SaaS and healthcare technology solutions.

  • Strong SQL reporting and business intelligence development skills.
  • Strong DevOps and CI/CD implementation skills.
  • Familiarity with data security and compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC 2).
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration standards (HL7, FHIR, CCDA, X12).
  • Proficiency in cloud technologies (Azure, AWS), database design, and distributed architectures.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including query optimization, stored procedure development, and report writing.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

LANGUAGE SKILLS AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Demonstrate the ability to read, comprehend, and respond appropriately through written or verbal form; demonstrate tactfulness when communicating including internal communication with staff members of all levels; ability to communicate with a variety of audiences effectively. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all measure units, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

SENSORY DEMANDS: The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration. The incumbent must also spend long hours on the computer entering information which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.


MENTAL DEMANDS: There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant pressure. The incumbent must also attend to a wide variety of individuals regarding various topics/challenges.


REGULAR WORK SCHEDULE: Schedule varies depending on business needs; however, regular company business hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday – Friday.
