What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legislative Coordinator position at California Medical Association?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages legislative tracking and the internal system of identifying bills of interest to medicine, coordinates the system by which positions on legislative bills are obtained, recorded, and reported. Staff Coordinator for Council on Legislation (COL) meetings that involves the planning and organization of the annual COL meeting.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains the legislative program for the Center for Government Relations, including, but not limited to, assisting with the assignment of legislation to lobbyists and development of the agenda and materials for the Council on Legislation.
- Responsible for the first reading of all bills to determine if CMA will follow the legislation and assign to appropriate Government Relations staff.
- Manages the comment and approval process for the adoption of the proactive legislative agenda for the Board of Trustees.
- Refers all bills of interest to medicine to the appropriate CMA commission or committee for evaluation and recommendation.
- Prepares agenda material for Council on Legislation meetings, including editing of reports and inputting recommendations for CMA positions.
- Attends all COL meetings as primary person for keeping minutes, recording positions and reasons taken on legislation. Coordinates meeting arrangements and background materials for the COL.
- Assists lobbyists with scheduling of legislative and other meetings, preparation of materials, issue research, making travel arrangements, and processing expense reimbursements.
- Responds to requests from physicians and staff on the status of a bill.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President
