The California Lottery is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Our mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retailer compensation.


In fiscal year 2023-24, the California Lottery provided over $2 billion in supplemental funding for California public schools, bringing the total contributions to more than $46 billion since we began in 1985. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations throughout the state. Product offerings include an average of 52 fun and entertaining Scratchers games and several draw games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and SuperLotto Plus and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot.


Job Description and Duties:

Under the general direction of the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), Operations Support Information Technology (IT) Manager I, the Senior Platform Administrator is responsible for the architecture, implementation, administration, and analysis of the most complex cloud platforms including but not limited to Endpoint Manager, Azure Active Directory, Teams, OneDrive, Defender, and the Adobe Creative Suite. Acts as the department's highest-level technical expert for enterprise-wide cloud platforms which include but is not limited to Microsoft 365 and the Adobe Creative Suite. Utilizing IT best practices, leads enterprise-wide cloud platform implementation projects and is responsible for platform maintenance, operations, and configurations to ensure the availability, performance, and security of the California State Lottery's (Lottery) cloud platforms in accordance with government, industry, and service management policies and best practices. The duties for this position are focused in the Client Services, IT Project Management, Information Security Engineering, and System Engineering domains; however, work may be assigned in other domains as needed.

This position is headquartered at the Lottery Headquarters in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as assigned. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires the employee to reside in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states: “telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.

Working Conditions

The Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer will work in a fast-paced environment, with competing priorities, and critical deliverables.

  1. Schedule: This position supports the Lottery during normal business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise approved by the unit manager. Weekends, long and/or irregular hours, after-hours work, and holiday work may be required.
  2. Travel: Statewide overnight travel may be required.
  3. Other: This position is required to carry a Lottery-issued cell phone. This position is required to be reachable outside of normal business hours.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) tools/platforms (e.g. ServiceNow).
  • Ability to develop quality documentation that clearly articulates solutions.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Virtual Desktop Platforms (Windows 365, VMware, and/or Azure VDI).
  • Knowledge of and experience with Desktop Management Platforms (Intune, SCCM, JAMF).
  • Ability to research and formulate resolutions to complex technical issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills supporting the ability to manage multiple workloads and coordinate assignments under high-pressure situations.
  • Experience supporting and providing subject matter expertise for enterprise-wide cloud platforms.
  • Solid understanding of PC and Apple hardware and ability to troubleshoot complex hardware/software related problems along with experience using iOS and Android Mobile Devices, including managing Mobile Device Management (MDM Systems) Points.
  • Experience using PowerShell and other scripting tools. Experience creating and maintaining a Microsoft Teams environment.
  • Experience working across multiple Domains, including Information Security Engineering, Client Services, IT Project Management, and System Engineering.
