The California Lottery is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Our mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retailer compensation.
In fiscal year 2023-24, the California Lottery provided over $2 billion in supplemental funding for California public schools, bringing the total contributions to more than $46 billion since we began in 1985. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations throughout the state. Product offerings include an average of 52 fun and entertaining Scratchers games and several draw games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and SuperLotto Plus and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot.
Job Description and Duties:
The California Lottery is looking for a dynamic Email Marketing and Loyalty Program Specialist who is passionate about email marketing and fostering player relationships and retention.
Under direction of the Chief of Engagement & Retention Marketing and reporting directly to the Staff Services Manager II - Marketing Manager Player Loyalty and Email Communications, the Email Marketing and Loyalty Program Specialist will be responsible for the execution and optimization of the Lottery's loyalty programs and email communications. This role will leverage enterprise email software and proprietary loyalty program tools designed to drive customer engagement and deliver program success. This position is critical to ensuring that the Lottery provides an exceptional experience that motivate consumers to play Lottery games, build an understanding of the Lottery's mission and impact, increase loyalty to the brand, and drive sales in order to generate supplemental funding for public education.

Desirable Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree, preferably with a specialization in marketing, communications, or related field.
- Five years or more of progressive marketing experience with at least three years of hands-on email marketing experience.
- Understanding of email best practices, i.e. CAN-SPAM laws, content creation, list management and targeting, knowledge of dynamic content, and campaign automation and orchestration.
- At least two years of loyalty marketing experience on a high-profile consumer brand.
- Understanding of loyalty marketing best practices and experience driving customer acquisition/enrollments/subscriptions, engagement, and retention.
- Proficiency using an advanced enterprise email marketing platform (i.e. Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Campaign, Oracle/Responsys, or Hubspot etc.) Strong HTML skills preferred.
- Ability to analyze campaign data, identify insights, and create clear reports.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Experience with design tools (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, Figma etc.) and proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience in gaming, entertainment, e-commerce, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), or consumer packaged goods (CPG) categories preferred.
